Sources of Schedules
There are 3 basic sources for a new shift schedule:
1. Do it yourself (DIY). It's free, but do you have the time? And what about the risks? Your schedule could incur unnecessary costs or miss opportunities for more weekends off.
2. Copy someone else's schedule. It's free and doesn't require much time. However, unless you have identical coverage, staffing, absence rates, and pay week, you could end up with an ineffective or inefficient schedule.
3. Hire an expert. Yes, it costs money. But the savings from proper staffing and strategic use of overtime can be substantial. Plus you'll get multiple options to choose from. If you want to find the optimal solution, this is really your best choice.
